Welcome to the sixth blog Carnival of Business! I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day holiday.
For those of you new to this young carnival, The Carnival of Business is a round-up of articles by fellow bloggers about starting your own business, getting the most out of your job and finding different ways to make extra money (just the kind of advice all debt haters need!).
I've found the carnival full of useful information I'm tucking away for my future ambitions -- there are always things here that you should know. My cyber-buddy Tim at My Money Forest started this carnival. Visit his site to find the previous installments.
This is my first time hosting a carnival and it's a lot of fun, but a ton of work! I've arranged the posts in some categories to help you find what you're looking for.
BUILDING YOUR BIZ
Adnan of Blogtrepreneur writes "Starting an E-Biz #5 -- Marketing." Read it here. In this installment, Adnan gives some good advice about bringing people to your site -- good advice that could also work for blogs.
Jim of Marketing for Power Packed Business Growth writes about using your business cards as a powerful marketing tool. Jim also says use the back of the card to sell your business! Read it here.
Becky McCray of Small Biz Survival writes about marketing by "word of mouth." Read it here.
We all know someone who knows everyone and everywhere to go in your
neighborhoods. Why not use that person as a marketing machine? Of
course, make sure they get a token of your appreciation.
KT Cat of The Scratching Post makes the case for being honest with your business' employees about money. She said doing just that allowed her to turn profits around from the red to the black. Read it here.
This post from David Maister's Passion, People and Principles, talks about hiring and retaining people you trust to build your business. Read it here.
YOU ARE YOUR OWN BUSINESS
Author David Lorenzo
posts to the carnival this week about finding friends, colleagues and
mentors who will help you propel you forward on your career track. Read
it here.
I must say that without advice and glowing praise from my mentors and
from my friend struggling in my profession like me, I would not have
made this move up to the job I'm taking now. I also suggest you check
out his Career Intensity blog here.
Folk singer Christine Kane writes her third
installment in a series about building a relationship with money -- an
important topic here at Debt Hater. Read her post here.
Kane likens her struggle with eating disorders to her approach to
dealing with money. This post is more about personal finance than
business, but I suggest this as neccessary reading for all of us
working our way out of debt!
Tim at My Money Forest has an excellent post about making more money from your own garden! Read it here.
Adnan has a post about beefing up your blog by podcasting with a nifty explainer about what podcasting is and how you can do it. Read it here.
STAYING AHEAD OF THE CURVE
Starling Hunter (cool name, don't you think!) of The Business of America is Business
has a funky post about "Beetle Juice." In this case, it's about making
gasoline additives from beetle digestive secretions. Read it here.
A Samuel of Off Plan Property Launches says tourism is taking off in Hungary. In case you're wondering, Hungary is a landlocked, eastern European country about the size of Indiana. The capital is Budapest. Read it here.
Trent at Stock Market Beat says Dell is making a mistake with its retail stores. Read it here.
Jack Yoest has an interesting rant on dressing for success. Condoleeza Rice as a model of strength, competence and femininity in her spike-heeled, black boots? Read it here.
Terrific job with the Carnival! Your comments made me want to read each and every article.
