Why am I in on a Saturday night?
A) I'm a homebody.
B) I am already broke halfway through August.
C) I needed to take a look at some of my larger financial goals.
D) All of the above.
Ten points if you said D.
Well, really, it's C and a little bit of A and since I am in because I shouldn't spend any more money, I decided to do C.
Might as well face it, August is going to be a red month. Birthday dinners, my sudden shopping and cosmetics compulsion, my need to have a professional work with my crown for a change and random mess has already got me well over my flex money limit for the month. While I have not yet spent into the red... I think it's coming anyway.
In the midst of all that, I was more concerned that this month's spending spree would hurt my big goal for the year -- saving six months of living expenses. For me, that's roughly $15,500 in the bank -- you will notice that is just about how much I owed in credit card debt once a upon a time!). But I just counted up the total of my emergency fund savings accounts and I am at $11,269. My automatic savings and a freelance assignment I completed will put me at $15,500 by the end of December. I am still on track! Even if this month winds up busted.
Whew! Still... that's no excuse to keep going nuts. Guess I better find some fun and free things to do for the rest of the month... or catch up on my reading! :-)
I have been doing the same. I really have to stop going places.

I'm in the same boat, and I've been going to the free outdoor movie nights all over the city. Mondays are Screen on the Green, Thursdays are '80s at Capital Riverfront--Navy Yard.
